AUDI COMPANY
Audi, is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. As a subsidiary of its parent company, the Volkswagen Group, Audi produces vehicles in nine production facilities worldwide.
The company name is based on the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August Horch.
Horch, meaning “listen” in German, becomes audi in Latin.
The first Audi automobile, the Audi Type A 10/22 hp (16 kW) Sport-Phaeton,
was produced in 1910 followed by the successor Type B10/28PS in the same year.
The current era of Audi production dates to 1968, when present-day owner Volkswagen, which had purchased Auto Union from Mercedes Benz in 1965, debuted the first modern Audi-branded vehicles.
