Bayerische Motoren Werke / Bavarian Motor Works also known as BMW was founded in 1916, during World War I. In its early days, BMW was involved in the production of aircraft engines. In 1918 due to the Treaty of Versailles, BMW had to stop the production of aircraft engines, producing only agricultural equipment and train brakes. In 1923 the first BMW motorcycle model was released, named R32. In 1933 the first car created entirely by BMW was named BMW 303. In 1952, BMW resumes car production after being involved in WWII, and releases the BMW 501 sedan. In 1954 the BMW 502 with the first V8 engine is produced and later in 1959 the BMW 600 and BMW 700. In 1978 BMW launches the first sports car model M1. In 1983, BMW introduced its first diesel engine with the M21model. BMW’s first V12 model came out three years later with the E32 750i. In 1995 the first BMW Z3 models appear. The first diesel engine in the BMW 7 Series appears in 1995 with the E38 725tds. In 1999 the first X5 model was produced. Since 2000, BMW owns the British car brand Mini. In 2007, BMW acquired the production rights of the Husqvarna mopeds for 93 million euros. In 2013, the first BMW i3, Series 4, Series 2 electric cars are launched. In 2014 BMW produces the X4 and i8 SUV, which has the M1 engine.
